As we slumped back from the restaurant to the b+b tonight, I think Stephen and I were wondering what happened to the easy part of this ‘easy day’ as he described it in the route summary. We totalled just over 70 miles in all, since we stopped a little short of Cullompton last night. In truth there was relatively little ascent so our limbs definitely felt less battered – but it was still a long enough day. The weather came on side today though – some beautiful sunshine as we took the canal path to Taunton and it returned in time for us to see the magnificent Wells Cathedral bathed in soft evening sunlight. More miles and hills tomorrow to Berkeley. We are consuming crazy quantities of energy bars and drink. Stephen thinks his beer gut is getting smaller, I think mines getting bigger!
