Back to some hills today but also accompanied by beautiful weather – sunny most of the day and several degrees warmer than yesterday. After the climb out of Wells and over the Mendip Hills we were soon on the cycle and canal paths to Bradford-on-Avon. It was clearly for many the first summer’s day out, we had to carefully thread our way through Sunday afternoon amblers. Strange to be back in communication with society again. A big and long gradual climb followed Bradford until we hit Roman Fosse Way and then finally dropped down steeply into the Cotswolds. We had booked earlier on the day a relatively remote B+B which we spent a little time finding – but boy what a find. Road Green House in North Nibley run by Claire and David Billingham. Beautiful house – and I even got a bath! (a somewhat sought after amenity for the long distance cyclist). The proprietors then promptly ferried us to an excellent restaurant nearby. This will have to get a good Trip Advisor write up. We both felt a little better after today, despite hills and fact that we clocked 67 miles in the end – but can’t wait for Tuesday’s rest day at my brothers, just one more cycle day to go.
